Inclusion

  • controls - normal bowel function
  • Irritable bowel syndrome - Rome II criteria
  • Normal menstrual cycle

Exclusion

  • irregular menses
  • pregnancy
  • use of psychotropic medication
  • claustrophobia
  • metal implants
  • metal in eyes
