Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion

  • birth weight 500 to 1,250g
  • clinically stable
  • no contraindications to initiating minimal enteral feeding

Exclusion

  • birth weight \> 1,250g
  • clinically unstable
  • any major congenital anomaly
  • significant GI pathology
  • severe IUGR
  • cholestasis
