Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion
- female
- age 30-50
- menstruating with regularity
- BMI between 30- 37.5 with stable body weight (\<5% change) over last 6 mos
- waist to hip ratio \>0.9
- sedentary lifestyle (typical exercise \< 30 min. per week)
- non-smoker
- evidence for pre-diabetes (hyperinsulinemia and/or blood glucose \> 100 \< 126 mg/dl)
Exclusion
- any clinically significant abnormal laboratory values
- any clinical signs of infection (i.e., fever)
- any chronic diseases
- any personal history of cardiovascular disease
- clinically-significant elevation in blood pressure (≥130/85)
- diabetes or other chronic disease
- any regular medications or drug abuse
- pregnancy or lactation
