Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion
- patients undergoing open liver resection or pancreaticoduodenectomy
Exclusion
- known parenchymal liver disease
- presence of ileostomy or colostomy
- patients with inflammatory bowel disease
- antibiotics, prebiotics or probiotics 2 months prior to surgery
