Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion

  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • diarrhea-predominant IBS
  • constipation-predominant IBS
  • mixed-type IBS
  • IBS/functional dyspepsia symptoms
  • Must be able to swallow tablets

Exclusion

  • organic bowel disease
  • renal disease
  • hepatic insufficiency,
  • schizophrenia
  • bipolar disorder
  • epilepsy
