Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion

  • symptomatic carotid stenosis (\> 50%)
  • unilateral asymptomatic carotid stenosis (\> 60%)
  • bilateral asymptomatic carotid stenosis (\> 60%)

Exclusion

  • carotid restenosis
  • "major surgery" in previous 6 months
  • previous brain trauma or surgery
  • malignant disease
  • epilepsy
  • carotid artery aneurysm
